Welcome From Our Chair

Welcome to the Department of Health Services Management and Leadership!

Here at GW, we are committed to prepare students to meet the growing demand for skilled health care executives. Whether you seek a professional career at a hospital or long-term care facility, a physician group practice or a freestanding ambulatory care center, our programs will prepare you to shape the future of health care organizations.

As an HSML student, you’ll experience our program’s hallmark strengths found nowhere else. You will be joining a department with a 50-year history of excellence teaching generations of health care organization leaders and managers. The department prides itself in the continuation of our commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service. Our dynamic program changes to meet the needs of the accreditation bodies, the practice of health care management and the employment market.

To complement our classroom-based learning with our distinguished faculty, learning takes place with the assistance of the local community and most importantly with the active participation of our alumni. HSML alumni come to campus to teach courses, present round tables, advise students and assist in residency and job placement. It really does take a community of health care leaders to educate the next generation.

  • Our teaching philosophy builds on theory, followed by application and then practice. When you complete your administrative residency you will be well prepared to launch your career.
  • At HSML scholarship is a combination of theoretical and applied research, creation of new knowledge and contributing to the profession through preparation of publication and text books.
  • We define service as contribution to the university, our profession, and our community. Members of the HSML faculty sit on university committees as well as on the board of professional association and the health care service community. HSML faculty members are frequently asked to provide expertise at government study panels, national committees and advisory boards.

Our programs continue to grow and respond to the fast-paced and dynamic changes in the public health services provider industry, ensuring that your education will aptly prepare you for your career.

I invite you to learn more about our degree programs that will help advance your career in health services management and leadership!
