Welcome to the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health! We engage with colleagues, communities, and society at large to advance health and sustainability. Our faculty, students, and staff address a range of topics, including sustainable cities and food systems; climate change mitigation and adaptation; solutions to workplace hazards; and scientific approaches for evaluating and communicating about risks.

Read more about our work in three key areas:

  • Sustainability – We expand and evaluate scientific evidence to inform sustainable decisionmaking for urban resource needs, food systems, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Risk Science and Policy – We focus on the scientific underpinnings of risk analysis, tools for evaluating risks, and methods to improve the communication of risk information to citizens, journalists, legislators, and other interested groups.
  • Occupational Hazards and Injuries – We study the causes of workplace injuries and devise strategies to prevent them in some of the most hazardous industries, including construction, meatpacking, and agriculture.
