Applying to Joint Degree Programs

At GW, we believe that public health issues are complex problems requiring an interdisciplinary approach to build healthier communities.  To better prepare public health professionals working in various fields, SPHHS has partnered with GW's many schools and colleges to offer a variety of Joint Masters Degree Programs that couple an expertise in public heath with the practical skills of related graduate degrees.

Prospective joint degree students must apply and be admitted to each degree program independently.  Please familiarize yourself with the specific requirements for each dual program.

Joint MD/MPH Program
Applicants must complete all admissions requirements and gain entrance to the School of Medicine & Health Science and the School of Public Health & Health Services.  Prospective students may submit official MCAT scores to SPHHS to satisfy the standardized testing requirement.  MD students may apply to begin the MPH program any time before their fourth year of medical school.

Joint JD/MPH or LLM/MPH Program
Applicants must complete all admissions requirements and gain entrance to the GW Law School and the School of Public Health & Health Services.  An official LSAT score report may be mailed directly to the SPHHS Admissions Office to satisfy the testing requirement.  Students are encouraged to apply to the MPH program simultaneously with with application to the Law School, or during their first semester as a law student.

Joint MPH/MA in International Affairs Program
Applicants must complete all admissions requirements and gain entrance to the School of Public Health & Health Services and the Elliott School of International Affairs.  The MPH must be a concentration within the Department of Global Health.  Students should apply to both programs simultaneously.

Joint PA/MPH Program
Applicants need only apply to the Physician Assistant Program at the School of Medicine & Health Science through CASPA.  The SMHS will forward your application materials to the School of Public Health & Health Sciences for consideration for admission to the MPH in Community Oriented Primary Care.  All application materials must be submitted to SMHS by October 1.

Master's International Program with the Peace Corps
Prospective students who wish to participate in our collaboration with the Peace Corps must apply to the MPH program at the School of Public Health & Health Services and to the Peace Corps simultaneously.  It is possible to apply to the Peace Corps after joining the MPH program, but significant time is needed for medical and suitability clearances for Peace Corps placement.
