Applying to Public Health Programs
Applications to the GW School of Public Health & Health Services are processed through the Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS). The online application provides a streamlined, paperless process for many accredited institutions.
All applicants to graduate and doctoral programs must submit the following to SOPHAS:
- The SOPHAS online application form
- Official transcripts from all academic institutions from which you earned credit
- Official and current GRE test scores (Institution Code 5268)
- Three letters of recommendation
Submit all forms directly to SOPHAS. No supporting application documents are accepted at our admissions office.
Standardized Testing Requirements
Applicants to graduate degree programs who hold a master’s degree are exempt from the GRE requirement. International applicants are not eligible for this waiver. Please review the SPHHS Language Proficiency and International Testing Requirement.
All applicants to doctoral programs must submit GRE scores, regardless of prior academic experience.
Statement of Purpose Guidelines
Your statement of purpose should explain how you became interested in your field of choice within public health; the contribution you hope to make to your field; and how you believe that GW's program fits in with your career goals.
If there is anything unusual in your transcripts, standardized testing, or resume that you wish to explain to the admissions committee, please include this information in your Statement of Purpose.
Interviews
Applicants to the MHSA program are required to sit for a formal interview. The Department of Health Services and Leadership will contact you to schedule an appointment after your application is complete.
No interviews are required for applicants to the MPH, MS, or graduate certificate programs.
Application Review Process
Our admissions committees consider applications on a rolling basis. Most applicants receive a decision regarding their admission within five weeks of completing their application.
