The Department of Exercise Science offers 5 Bachelor of Science programs:

Course Descriptions

Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science 

The general Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science coursework focuses on the core exercise science curriculum and allows students to focus elective coursework in another area.

In this program, students complete:

  • 53 semester-hours of general requirements
  • 42 semester-hours of core exercise science requirements
  • 29 semester-hours of advisor approved electives

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Exercise Science, Pre-Medical Professional

In the Pre-Medical Professional concentration, coursework focuses in assessment of injuries, therapeutic modalities and therapeutic exercise in sports medicine, general physics, general chemistry, and organic chemistry.

Benefits of the Pre-Medical Concentration:

  • Students are prepared for admittance to medical, physician assistant, MS in nursing, veterinarian, and public health professional/graduate degree programs;
  • Provides internship training in pre-medical profession areas;
  • Develops a knowledge base and clinical skills that supplement the professional programs;
  • The majority of graduates successfully gain admittance to professional schools.

  • 53 semester-hours of general requirements
  • 42 semester-hours of core exercise science requirements
  • 16 semester-hours of coursework in the Pre-Medical Professional concentration
  • 13 semester-hours of advisor approved electives

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Exercise Science, Pre-Dietetics

In the Pre-Dietetics concentration, coursework focuses on chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, and biochemistry.

Benefits of the Pre-Dietetics concentration:

  • Students are prepared for admittance to dietetics,  medical,  physician assistant, MS in nursing, veterinarian, and public health professional/graduate degree programs;
  • Provides internship training in pre-dietetics profession areas;
  • Develops a knowledge base and clinical skills that supplement the professional programs.

In this program, students complete:

  • 53 semester-hours of general requirements
  • 42 semester-hours of core exercise science requirements
  • 18 semester-hours of coursework in the Pre-Dietetics concentration
  • 11 semester-hours of advisor approved electives

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Exercise Science, Pre-Physical Therapy 

In the Pre-Physical Therapy concentration, coursework focuses  in assessment of injuries, therapeutic modalities and therapeutic exercise in sports medicine, general physics,  and general chemistry.

Benefits of the Pre-Physical Therapy concentration:

  • Students are prepared for admittance to  physical therapy,  medical, physician assistant, MS in nursing, veterinarian, and public health professional/graduate degree programs;
  • Provides internship training in pre-physical therapy profession areas;
  • Develops a knowledge base and clinical skills that supplement the professional programs;
  • The majority of graduates successfully gain admittance to professional schools.

In this program, students complete:

  • 42 semester-hours of core exercise science requirements
  • 20 semester-hours of coursework in the Pre-Medical Professional concentration
  • 9 semester-hours of advisor approved electives

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Exercise Science, Pre-Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Concentration

In the Pre-Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Concentration, coursework prepares students for professional careers in the field and for entrance into professional graduate programs in Athletic Training, Medicine, Physical Therapy and other health professions.

In this program, students complete:

  • 53 semester-hours of general requirements
  • 41 semester-hours of core exercise science requirements
  • 22 semester-hours of coursework in the Pre-Medical Professional concentration
  • 8 semester-hours of advisor approved electives
