Information Session: Sustainability in the Amazon Region (WLP 2100)
Manaus, Brazil; Santarem, Brazil
Summer Study Abroad
The Amazon region is a critical area for the future economic growth of Brazil and represents a major social development challenge. The focus of this short term abroad program is to observe how leadership groups - represented by the government, businesses, NGOs, and indigenous population - struggle to advance their interests and, at the same time, preserve and restore the Amazon region.
This course focuses on women's leadership (but not limited to) in these various sectors and their role in advancing social issues, promoting sustainable management of the forest, and balancing the economic benefits with the environmental and social costs of forest extraction.
Please note: this course is open to female undergraduate and graduate students only.
Information Session:
Monday, February 6th, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Funger Hall 520
Friday, February 10th, 3-4 p.m., Funger Hall 520
