Purpose & Focus:

The objective of the symposium is to identify how to harness the current policy initiatives and recommend practical solutions to the real problems of interoperability, data sharing, and efficacy and efficiency of healthcare in the United States. The goal (outcome) of this event will be a published white paper outlining the comments and suggestions, which will be available to the public.

Invited subject‐matter experts will convene to discuss the future of health information technology (HIT) and the impact of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, the Affordable Care Act, and the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) report on HIT.

Topics

  • What impact will interoperability and data sharing have on healthcare systems, providers,healthcare purchasers, and patient advocacy groups?
  • How will interoperability and data sharing support the stages of meaningful use?
  • What will healthcare systems, providers, and healthcare purchasers do beyond the expiration of current incentives?
  • Exploratory assessment of the PCAST recommendations: Getting to better data liquidity, what can we build on?
  • What would be the best place to test technologies within the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs?
